Glow Bar Sections and Curves

Frequently Asked Questions

Details to help plan your glow bars quote

What is a glow bar?+
A bar whose front and sides are a translucent panel lit from inside, so the bar itself is the light source rather than something you point a fixture at. Ours are the Avenue sections, framed in gold, flat gold or silver. In a dark room the effect is a solid block of color with a metal edge, and it holds up in photographs where an uplit bar tends to go patchy.
Can a glow bar be curved or wrapped around a corner?+
Yes. That is the reason to choose this system over a single-piece bar. Quarter curves, eighth curves and rounded corners combine with 6ft straights, so the bar can follow the shape of a courtyard, wrap a stage, or turn a corner in a ballroom without a break in the lit face.
How is this different from uplighting a normal bar?+
Uplighting washes color across a surface from outside, so you get hot spots, shadows where the fixture is blocked, and a bar that stops glowing the moment a guest stands in front of the light. A glow bar is lit internally and even across the whole face, and nothing standing at the bar interrupts it. The trade-off is that a glow bar has one look and a wrapped bar can be anything.
Can the glow match our brand or wedding color?+
Colour is the whole reason clients book these, so tell us the target before the event rather than on the day. Send the hex value or the Pantone if you have it and we will confirm what the units can hold and how close it will read once the room lighting is up, which is never quite what it looks like in an empty warehouse.
Do glow bars need power at the venue?+
They need a plan for it. Tell us where the bar is going and what power is available at that spot, and we will confirm what the units need and whether anything has to be run to them. Do not assume an outdoor location has a usable outlet within reach, because that is the detail that most often turns up on the day.
Do glow bars work outdoors?+
They are at their best outdoors, after dark. A glow bar on a resort lawn or a pool deck is often the only lit object at that end of the property, which is exactly what you want when guests need to find the bar without a sign. During daylight the effect is close to invisible, so if your event is an afternoon one, book a standard bar and save the glow for the evening portion.
Are glow bars bright enough to light the area around them?+
No, and do not plan on it. A glow bar lights itself, not the floor, the bartender's workspace or the queue. Bartenders need task light to pour accurately, and guests need enough light to read a menu. Treat the glow bar as a feature and add separate lighting for the work that happens behind it.
Does a glow bar still need a back bar?+
Yes, and arguably more than a standard bar does. The lit face is the point, so anything stacked behind or beside the bar is in view. A back bar keeps bottles, ice and clutter off the floor and out of the lit frame. Bar backs are a separate rental.
When does a glow bar look wrong?+
In a brightly lit ballroom during dinner, where it reads as a plastic box. Under an existing color wash that fights the bar's own color. And in a room with nothing else lit, where a single glowing object in the dark looks like a vending machine. It works when the rest of the room is lit deliberately and the bar is one element in that scheme, not the only one.
Can I mix glow sections with standard bars?+
Yes. The Avenue frames come in gold, flat gold and silver across both the lit and unlit ranges, so a glow run can meet a standard section and read as one continuous bar. It is a useful way to put the lit face where guests approach and keep the service end plain.
