What does rented lighting do that the venue's lighting cannot?+
Venue lighting is fixed, overhead and aimed at the floor. It tells you a room is lit; it does nothing for how the room feels. Rented lighting sits at table height, in corners, on bars and under plants, which is where light actually does the work. If your event photographs badly, this is almost always why, and it is the cheapest category on this site to fix it with.
Which pieces are cordless?+
Most of the range. All thirteen table lamps are cordless and battery powered, along with the Edison bulbs and the uplights. That is what lets you put light in the middle of a guest table, on a bar back, in a planter or out on a lawn with no cable taped across a walkway and no dependence on where the venue put its outlets. Ask about run time for the length of your event.
What are battery uplights and where do they go?+
Small fixtures that sit on the floor and wash light up a vertical surface: a wall, a column, a pipe and drape run, a hedge wall, the trunk of a tree. Battery powered means they go where the effect is needed rather than where the power is. They are the single most cost-effective way to change the colour of a whole room.
Do the chandeliers need to be hung?+
Yes, and that is a venue conversation before it is a rental one. We stock chandelier hooks in black and white, but the hang point, the height and who rigs it depend entirely on the space. Send us the venue and the ceiling situation before you build a floor plan around a chandelier, because some rooms simply will not take one.
What are light orbs for?+
Soft round lights in 6, 8, 12 and 16 inch sizes, plus mercury orbs in 5 and 6 inch. They group on a table, cluster on the floor at the base of a bar or a plant, or run down the centre of a communal table as an alternative to candles. Odd numbers in mixed sizes read better than an even row of matching ones.
What are the glowing cacti?+
Illuminated saguaro and barrel cacti at 2ft, 4ft, 6ft and 8ft, plus cactus marquee signs at 3ft and 6ft. They are the most unmistakably Arizona pieces we rent, and they do a job no generic lighting does: an out-of-town corporate group or a destination wedding party knows instantly where they are. An 8ft glowing cactus at the end of a bar run is a photograph guests take without being asked.
How much lighting does a room need?+
Less than a lighting company will quote and more than most people order. The working approach is to light three things: the faces of guests, the vertical surfaces, and the objects you want looked at. A lamp per guest table or every other table, uplights along the longest wall, and something lit at each end of the bar covers a typical reception.
What works for an outdoor Phoenix event?+
Battery everything, because a lawn, a pool deck or a patio rarely has power where the light needs to go. Cordless table lamps, battery uplights and Edison bulbs handle it. Lanterns and the glowing cacti hold their own outdoors after dark. The thing to plan for is wind: anything tall and light goes over first, so tell us where pieces are going.
Which lighting photographs best?+
Warm, low and multiple. A phone camera in a dim room exposes for the brightest thing in frame, so several small warm sources beat one bright one every time. Table lamps, orbs and Edison bulbs all photograph as warmth. Coloured uplighting photographs as colour on a wall, which is a different job. Ask your photographer which they want before ordering either.
If the budget only covers one thing, what should we light?+
The tables people sit at. Guests spend most of the evening at eye level with a tablescape, and warm light at that height changes every photograph taken during dinner. Second priority is the bar, because it is where people gather and it is usually the darkest built object in the room. Uplighting a wall is third, not first.
