How many side tables do I need?+
At least one per grouping, and two is the number that actually works. One at the open end of the sofa, one beside the accent chairs. A grouping with a coffee table and nothing else forces every guest on the outside edge to lean across someone to put a glass down, which is how drinks end up on the floor.
How tall should a side table be?+
Level with the arm of the sofa or the chair it serves, generally 20 to 24 inches, which is taller than a coffee table. A seated guest should be able to set a glass down without looking. If you are pairing one with a low armless piece, go shorter rather than taller.
What is the difference between a side table and an accent table?+
Function, not size. A side table is doing a job: holding a drink next to a seat. An accent table is placed for the look of it, at the end of a run, beside an entry, in the corner of a photo. Can a side table be used outside a lounge grouping?+

Should side tables match the coffee table?+
They should relate, not match. The reliable approach is to share a material or a metal across the grouping and let the shapes differ: a round burl side table next to a rectangular walnut coffee table reads intentional. Two identical tables in different sizes reads like a catalog set, which is fine but flat.
What is the glowing cube?+
