What is a hedge wall used for?+
Four jobs, usually at once. A photo backdrop that guests will actually queue for. A step and repeat surface for a branded activation. A screen that hides a service door, a loading corridor or the back of a catering line. And a way to give an oversized room a defined edge so a 200 guest event does not float in a 600 guest ballroom.
How wide does a photo backdrop need to be?+
Eight feet is the working minimum for groups. A 4ft panel frames one or two people and nothing more. At 8ft you can get a group of five or six in the shot without anyone standing off the edge of the greenery, which is the mistake you see in most event photos. For a line of guests at a busy activation, plan 16ft of wall so two groups can shoot at once.
Can our logo or signage go on a hedge wall?+
Yes, and it is the most common request. Greenery is the background most logos read best against, because the texture is busy enough to look designed and dark enough that white and metallic lettering pops. Send us the artwork dimensions and the panel width you want and we will tell you what fits. Signage is quoted separately.
How do panels connect into a longer wall?+
They line up side by side to build whatever width the space needs. Two 8ft panels give you a 16ft run, four give you 32ft. Match the base finish across the run, because a brown stain base next to a white base is the detail that shows in every photograph taken at that end of the wall.
Do hedge walls stand on their own?+
Yes, each panel sits on its own base. Leave a foot or two of clearance behind the wall rather than pushing it flush against a real wall, both so the base is not visible from an angle and so nobody standing at the side of the shot sees the back of the panel.
Can hedge walls be used outdoors?+
Yes, and they photograph beautifully on a resort lawn or against a desert backdrop. Wind is the one thing to plan for. A freestanding panel is a sail, and Phoenix evenings bring wind up after sunset with no warning. Tell us the wall is going outside and where, and we will plan the placement and weighting rather than discovering the problem at 7pm.
Can flowers, neon signs or lettering be added?+
All three, and a bare hedge wall is rarely the finished article. Florals worked into the greenery, a neon sign mounted on the face and custom lettering are the three most common additions, in that order. Decide before the install, because adding to a wall after it is set and lit takes longer than building it right the first time.
Brown base or white base?+
Brown disappears. White announces itself. Choose brown for weddings, garden settings and anywhere the greenery should read as the whole object, which is most of the time. Choose white for modern corporate rooms, white-on-white activations and anywhere the base is meant to be part of the design rather than something to overlook.
How much space does a hedge wall need?+
Plan the panel width plus a foot or two of depth for the base, plus clear floor in front of it for the people being photographed. A backdrop jammed into a corner with three feet of room in front of it will not get used, because nobody can back up far enough to fit a group in the frame. Eight to ten feet of open floor in front is the practical minimum.
What else works as an event backdrop?+
Pipe and drape, for a fabric wall in black velvet or poly that covers far more width for the money and hides an entire room edge. Towers and columns, for height rather than width. Event signage, when the message matters more than the surface. Hedge walls win when the backdrop itself has to look good in the photograph.
