Pergolas, Cabanas and Arches

Frequently Asked Questions

Details to help plan your pergolas quote

What is the difference between a pergola, a cabana and an arch?+
An arch is two posts and a beam. It frames a moment, which is why it goes behind a ceremony, over an entrance or at the end of an aisle, and it gives you nothing in the way of shade. A pergola cabana is a full four-post structure you can furnish and stand inside. An arbor cabana is the lower, more enclosed version. Choose by whether people will pass through it or sit under it.
Do you rent traditional party tents?+
No. We do not stock pole or frame party tents, and we would rather tell you that here than after you have called. What we do have is the Arcadia A-frame, which builds in one to six gable sections, plus pergolas, cabanas and umbrellas. If your event needs a full tented reception, use a tent company for the tent and we will furnish the inside of it.
What is the Arcadia A-frame?+
A modular open-sided structure built from gable sections, from a single section up to six. It gives an outdoor space a defined roof line and a clear edge without the enclosed feel of a tent, and it scales with the footprint rather than coming in one fixed size. It is what people usually mean when they ask us for something tent-like and then say they do not want a tent.
What size do I need?+
Our pergolas and cabanas come at 8x8 and 10x10. An 8x8 covers one lounge grouping or a bar. A 10x10 covers a grouping with room to walk around it, or two cocktail tables with people standing between them. For a ceremony, size to the arch rather than the guest count, because the structure is framing the couple, not sheltering the seats.
Do pergolas actually provide shade?+
It depends on the roof. An open pergola gives you structure and a sense of enclosure, not shade, and at midday in June that distinction matters a great deal. The slat roof and the grey woven roof are the ones that cut real sun. If the event is a daytime one between May and September, specify a roof rather than assuming the frame will do the work.
How are these structures secured in wind?+
Tell us the surface when you book, because that decides everything. Grass, decomposed granite, pavers and a pool deck each need a different approach, and a Phoenix evening brings wind up after sunset with no warning. This is the one item on an event that can actually hurt someone if it is treated casually, so we plan it rather than improvising on site.
Which wood colour should I choose?+
Natural for desert venues, garden ceremonies and anywhere the structure should recede into the landscape. Walnut for warmth against ivory and greenery, which is the most requested combination for weddings. Black for modern rooms and corporate activations, where the frame reads as a graphic line. White for bright, coastal and all-white palettes, and it is the one that photographs cleanest against a blue Arizona sky.
Can a pergola be draped or decorated?+
That is most of what people do with them. Fabric across the top, greenery and florals along the beams, hanging lighting from the crossbeams, and drape down the corner posts. Tell us at booking what is going on it, because a structure carrying florals and fabric is loaded differently from a bare one, and that changes how we secure it.
When does an arch make sense instead of a cabana?+
When the structure is being photographed rather than used. A ceremony backdrop, a welcome moment at an entrance, or the frame at the end of an aisle. The arch is doing one job for twenty minutes and then it is in the photographs forever. A cabana is the right call when guests need somewhere to sit, drink or get out of the sun for an hour.
How far ahead should structures be reserved?+
Earlier than furniture. These are single pieces, not stacks of chairs, so the count in any one wood and size is limited, and peak-season Saturdays go first. They also take crew time to build on site, which has to be scheduled against everything else landing that morning. Send us the date and the model as soon as you have the venue.
